I rely on value and strong contrasts in my work to communicate form, but also feelings. I never tire of seeing contrasts of light in nature between strong sunlight and dark shadow. One of my favorites is seeing storm clouds at the water's horizon, but the sun is still sparkling over the water. The dichotomy gives me a serious rush. It feels pensive, but serene, like I'm witnessing the tipping point of a storm erupting, or clouds giving way to blue skies. It's an incredible energy to watch the light and dark coexist.
.
Arriving at this point in my artistic journey, I'm fully aware that there are going to be dark clouds, but I can control my response to them, and I can be very intentional about where I am when they form. This series has been critical to my personal growth over the last several weeks, and I'm so grateful to have an outlet for all the realizations I've been making over the last year.
